Nathan Vandiver, General Manager at University of Arkansas Little Rock Public Radio/KUAR, has been elected to the University: Station Alliance Board of Directors.
Vandiver began his public media career as an intern for the university station in 2009. After a successful internship, he was hired as a part-time reporter and anchor. Promoted to program director in 2013, and Interim General Manager in 2016, he oversaw upgrades to control rooms with new broadcast consoles and audio control systems, expanded development efforts with an increased focus on major and planned gifts, and two years of significant growth in underwriting and individual giving revenue. He was named General Manager in 2019.
Nathan says, “I began my journey in radio as a listener. I found public radio at a time in my life when I was seeking a broader perspective on how the world around me worked. As a university licensee at the state’s only metropolitan university, I look forward to providing similar opportunities for students to learn broadcasting and journalism through internships at a professional media setting.”
In 2018, Vandiver was honored with the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network 20 over 20 Award. The award celebrates the accomplishments of nonprofit professionals over the age of 20 and establishes them as emerging or current leaders in the nonprofit sector.
Vandiver says, “I’m thrilled to be joining the U:SA Board. The U:SA’s information and services have benefited my stations, licensee, and me personally in my role as a general manager. I look forward to working with my university station colleagues as we continue to strengthen the bonds between our stations and institutions at this time of great change and opportunity in both higher education and media.”
Vandiver’s management experience and commitment to public media combined with his youth add depth and perspective to the U:SA Board of Directors. Welcome Nathan.
